As the lead design consultant to Dake I Wells Architecture, H Design facilitated and assisted in the new design for a 5,000 sq. ft. gymnasium for the Willard South Elementary School, along with a new 19,000 sq. ft. Vocational Agriculture Structure located adjacent to the existing high school.
The gymnasium structure was designed to provide maximum flexibility with minimal impact to the existing campus. The structure provides immediate resolve to the growing student enrollment and allows the district to offer before and after school programs to the community, giving the addition of greater functionality and presence.
With the Willard demographics having strong ties to the farming and ranching community, the success of the Vocational Agriculture Structure was essential. Being able to have multiple areas with interchanging uses (engine repair, metal working, welding, painting, greenhouses, building technology, and future meat processing labs) was a key programming element.
Both structures are simple in their form and material. However, through thoughtful planning and creativity, a design that boasts education and higher learning was successfully created.
