Due to a recent surge in both family attendance for Church service and student enrollment for School, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church is in the process of re-evaluating the functional spaces and requirements of its existing campus. Previous design of its educational wing and initial first phase created a plan that did support distinction, allow for efficient expansion, and support space for movement and interaction of the parish/school community. Because of the organization or sequence of spaces, the Church had multiple circulation issues that did not support this unprecedented growth and caused confusion within. Through concise participation with the Client (Building and School Committee Leadership) a well thought out plan was created that allowed distinct yet shared spaces that accommodate both the School and Church's needs together.
The addition of a new gymnasium, open cafeteria/lobby, along with reconfiguration of existing classrooms, and new School/ Church entrances were primary elements that were discovered as being the fundamental programming spaces needed for the success of this project to move forward.
Re-organizing the existing campus plan into a fashion in which spaces of both School and Church are connected by "movement" paths allows for distinction within yet connection throughout.
